All set for Melton’s big Christmas lights switch-on

MELTON’S countdown to Christmas starts on Friday (November 30) with the big lights switch-on.

There will be a Christmas market with about 30 stalls (10am to 8pm) and lots more entertainment throughout the day including a bumper line-up of stage shows (10am to 7.35pm).

Taking to the stage will be a selection of school choirs and there will also be a live Zumba performance (12.30pm) and performances by local artists and bands.

Santa will arrive for the children at 4pm and other attractions will include a childrens’ fun fair (noon to 8pm), dancing snowmen (noon onwards), Pogo the Clown (2.30pm to 6.30pm) and Santa’s Grotto (4.15pm to 7pm).

Families joining in the festive fun can take advantage of free shoppers’ parking in the town’s long stay car parks from 10am.

BBC Radio Leicester will be taking over the controls ready for the lights switch-on. Melton Mayor John Illingworth will be joined by Melton’s four Olympic Torchbearers and London Marathon heroine Claire Lomas, who lit the Paralympic flame, for the flicking of the switch at 6.45pm.

Melton’s DJ Huddz, who will be among the stage acts, will also be streaming the big switch-on live via his website www.djhuddz.com
