Labour’s Bach wins Leicestershire and Rutland Police and Crime Commissioner election

Labour’s Willy Bach has been voted as the new Police and Crime Commissioner for Leicestershire and Rutland.

Lord Bach won 78,188 of the votes, beating Conservative candidate Neil Bannister on 58,305 after a second round where second preference votes were counted.

After the first round Lord Bach (Lab) polled 44.69 per cent of the votes, Neil Bannister (Con) 30.87 per cent, Sarah Hill (Lib Dem) 12.73 per cent and David Sprason (UKIP) 11.71 per cent.

Lord Bach of Lutterworth won 10,197 of second votes, trailing Mr Bannister’s 11,347 but had enough of a first round advantage to win. The overall turn out was 20.25 per cent.

Lord Bach said his time in office would focus on neighbourhood policing, which he said was “the glue that connects the police and the community”, and tackling domestic violence.

In Harborough district where three of the candidates live voters backed Mr Bannister who secured 6,787 first round votes, compared to Lord Bach’s 3,557 votes. Lib Dem Sarah Hill totalled 3,413 votes and UKIP candidate David Sprason 1,678 votes.
