Local slimmers have raised nearly £500 for Cancer Research UK after holding their own Slimming World does Race for Life event in Melton Country Park.

The event, which saw around 50 people take part along with lots of spectators who cheered entrants on, aimed to raise awareness of how keeping a healthy weight can improve health, including reducing the risk of developing 10 types of cancer, as well as raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK.

Melton Slimming World consultant Mandy Cross said: “It was a fantastic event. The atmosphere was electric and everyone was so supportive of each other

“I’m so pleased with how much we raised for Cancer Research UK and I think the event showed people just how motivating being part of a Slimming World group like ours can be.

“A special mention has to go to our new friends at Melton’s Defence Animal Centre, who joined us on the walk on August 18 and made a donation, and to those who sponsored us but couldn’t make it on the night.”
