It follows the announcement by NHS England in July that services should stop as the hospital was not meeting – and is unlikely to – meet new standards.

Affected families from the Melton area have shared their own stories and experiences with the Melton Times as well as signing a petition to save the centre.

Now a demonstration has been arranged in Leicester on October 29. Protesters will meet at the Victoria Park car park (Granville Road entrance) at 11am before marching at noon to Jubilee Square for a rally at 1pm.

A Facebook page created by the Save Glenfield Children’s Heart Centre campaign group said: “Glenfield saves lives and has ‘excellent outcomes’. If it closes it will have a knock-on effect on many other services such as children’s intensive care and other children’s services.”
