A 91-bedroom nursing home is proposed to be built on land off the A6006 Asfordby Road, close to Melton town centre.
The vacant site had previously been earmarked for a development of apartments, which had been granted planning permission, but now family-run Leicester-based business Magnum Care wants to build a care home there instead.
A design and access statement, supporting its planning application to Melton Council, says: “Magnum Care successfully manage two care home facilities and is looking to expand into the Melton area.
“The proposed facility is designed for older people, specialising in palliative and dementia care as regulated by the Care Quality Commission. The services provided would broadly fall into four categories - residential care, nursing care, day care and continuing healthcare. The service will work closely with local councils and hospitals and will offer free NHS care provision under contract, local authority funded placements and private placements.”
The home, which would be one of the largest buildings in the town, would be served by a new access junction off Asfordby Road, leading to a private car park with 26 spaces.
There would be a maximum of 20 staff working onsite at any one time.
A traffic and transportation report, commissioned by Magnum Care, claims the development proposals ‘should not raise any highways-related concerns in respect of the level of traffic movements generated’.
The application will be decided by Melton Council in due course.
