Ben, who on the rugby club committee and a member of the Melton Mowbray Round Table, has embarked on many charity challenges over the years. He decided to ‘Brave the Shave’ in memory of his mum, Liz, who died about 10 years ago from ovarian cancer at the age of 57.

Ben said: “Everyone at some stage will be affected by cancer, whether it be themselves, a member of the family or close friend. I thought if I could raise a little money for a good cause by shaving my head then it would be a good thing.

“So far I’ve managed to raise £3,415 with still more money promised. I’m completely overwhelmed by it to be honest. I wanted to raise £500 and secretly hoped for £1,000, so to achieve over £3,000 is incredible. A special thanks goes to my wife, Lucy, who allowed me to come home after I had done it!”
