Firefighters attend blazes in Melton wooded area twice in a week

Firefighters were called to fires in the same wooded area in Melton twice inside a week.

On both occasions it involved a quantity of electrical cables, near the river and train line on Baldock’s Lane.

Scott Smith, who is based at Melton Fire Station, said: “It is believed that the cables were being burned for the copper cable inside.

“Our crews used buckets of water to extinguish the fires and a small area of trees and shrubbery were damaged.”

The call-outs were at 11.55am yesterday (Sunday) and 10.16pm on June 19.
