Record numbers of gift orders were made at the 10th Christmas preview sale organised by the Fairtrading Post at Melton.

The organisation took £7,000 in pre-orders for fairtrade items such as food, clothes, hampers, pottery and jewellery.

Particularly popular at the preview sale this year, which was at the Christian Centre in Nottingham Street, were products provided by members of the Dalit untouchable cast in India.

Lynn Marriott, one of the directors at the Fairtrading Post with Dolores Harvey and Helen Chadwick, said: “We must have had a couple of hundred people at the preview this year.

“People know their money helps the poorest and most vulnerable people in the world.”

Orders for Christmas gifts can be made at the organisation’s shop in Market Place in Melton.
