Driver arrested following accident on flooded rural road near Melton was allegedly nearly four times the legal drink drive limit

A driver was allegedly nearly four times the legal alcohol limit on a flooded rural road near Melton when he was arrested by Leicestershire Police during the force's ongoing drink drive campaign.

Police said the motorist, arrested after a road collision, gave a positive roadside breath test reading of 139 - the limit being 35mcg of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The man is among 17 people arrested across the county so far within the first two weeks of the force’s summer drink drive blitz.

This year’s enforcement campaign is running for an extra week - until Sunday July 10 - to coincide with the European Football Championships.

Chief Inspector Phil Vickers, who is heading up the regional drink drug drive campaign across the East Midlands police forces, said, “Too many people are still risking both their lives and those of innocent people by getting behind the wheel while unfit to drive. It’s just not worth the risk, if you choose to drink and drug drive our round the clock patrols will catch you.”
