Respectful pupils from Scalford Church of England Primary School led a commemorative service to remember those who served in the Battle of the Somme 100 years ago.

The soldiers who served were remembered through readings, music and hymns on Friday, with memories of family members who fought in the battle from locals Jim McNamara and Pam Tripp.

The younger children scattered poppy petals during a reading of “In Flanders Fields” and a personal tribute was made to a great grandfather from a pupil. All the children had previously made very distinctive poppy tiles which formed a poignant display throughout St Egelwins Church.
