Melton Vale Post-16 Centre was visited by the Right Honourable Sir Alan Duncan to encourage students to vote ahead of the general elections in May.
The Melton and Rutland MP met with a select group of law, politics and economic students and spoke about local and national politics. This was followed by a question and answer session on various aspects of the parliamentary process and life as an MP.
A-level law student Sharmila Mohankumar said: “Being able to listen and talk with an actual MP in the year of a general election was a golden opportunity not to be missed. Sir Alan was very open to debating a number of issues such as Trident, wind farm energy and the state of the economy.”
Sir Alan said: “I have done hundreds of school visits over the years and you can immediately tell when a school or college has got it badly wrong or absolutely right. In the case of MV16, it’s unarguably the latter.”
