The event began with an assembly in the school hall, followed by a ‘street-style’ party in the school grounds.

Headteacher Anne Harvey said: “Our annual Grandparents Day is one of our most popular events of the school year; this time we decided to link it to the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations.

“It’s important for our children to recognise the Queen’s milestone birthday as well as celebrating the special relationship between grandparents and their grandchildren.”

All pupils were presented with a HM Queen Elizabeth II 90th birthday commemorative medal, provided by the parish council. These were presented by school governor Pat Peters.

Year six pupil Ellie took a scrapbook to school of the coronation from 1953, that her grandad had made and given to her.

She said: “I felt really special when my grandad passed on something to me that he had made as a child. I also felt very proud that I got the opportunity to show it to everyone.”
