Schools hit as NUT calls strike

A number of schools in Melton borough were closed or partially closed yesterday as members of the National Union of Teachers joined a national one day strike over pay, pensions and conditions.

A number of schools in Melton borough were closed or partially closed today as members of the National Union of Teachers joined a national one day strike over pay, pensions and conditions.

Long Field Academy was open to Year 7 and 11 only and Belvoir High in Bottesford to Years 10 and 11 only.

Melton Vale Post 16 Centre was open as normal although school leaders said there might be some disruption to individual lessons.

John Ferneley College was open as normal as was Catmose College, Oakham.

Of the borough’s primary schools Brownlow and Sherard were closed and Waltham partially closed.

Birch Wood Special School also had to close.

About 100 schools in the city and county are affected.
