Appreciative pupils and staff at Asfordby Captain’s Close School have bid a fond farewell to long-serving office administrator Jan Newman who has retired after 27 years’ service.

Staff, friends and governors held a party for her at Asfordby Parish Hall and the school held a special celebration assembly where the children sang some of Mrs Newman’s favourite songs and presented her with cards and pictures.

Headteacher Julia Hancock said: “She’s more than just a member of the office team. She has looked after us all, dispensed advice and care to everyone in the community and will be greatly missed.

“I know she’s looking forward to spending more time with her grandchildren, but she’s still planning to come in to help at school when she’s got time.”
