Students at the College achieved an astounding 88.5 per cent A*–C pass rate, 10 per cent above the national average.

Director of Sixth Form, Michala Jackson at Rutland County College said: “Young people in the Stamford and Rutland area can be assured by these results that Rutland County College continues to maintain the success achieved over recent years, despite the huge changes that are taking place on a national level.”

To add to its success, the average points score which is used by UCAS to assess each student on their grades, extra-curricular activity and progress is up on average by 90 points per student.

The college’s progress report, which takes into account the predicted grades of students when they start their course and compares them to their actual grade, is scored at significantly above expectations.

Principal of Casterton College Rutland and Rutland County College Carl Smith said the scores are a testament to the hard work of the staff and students at the college.

He added: “Our sixth form provision continues to outperform other schools, with students achieving higher grades than would be expected, given their starting point.”

This is a testament reflected by the students who picked up their results on Thursday.

“I didn’t do too well at GCSE and the college has helped me to develop an all-round experience.”

Jenny Matthews, 18, from Ketton, is going to study Psychology at Birmingham University after gaining two A* and two A grades.

“I checked online so I knew I had my university place, but I wasn’t expecting these grades. I can’t believe it.”

Not all students were heading to university after finishing college. Tim Amor, 19, from Melton, achieved a distinction in BTEC Engineering Level 2 at the college in 2014 and was picking up his results in Media Studies and IT this year, before starting an apprenticeship at Mecc Alte in Lands’ End Way, Oakham, next week.

He said: “I would rather be paid to learn and want to get on the career ladder early.
