Melton’s Rotary clubs have held the first round of the national Rotary public speaking contest - Youth Speaks.

The competition held at Quorn Lodge Hotel had five entries from Oakham’s Catmose College and one entry from Melton’s John Ferneley College.

Teams researched and spoke about many of the current issues in the news today.

Rotarian John Horn said: “All the judges were very impressed by all who took part in what was a very entertaining evening.

“Speeches were delivered with humour where appropriate and great confidence which made for a very high standard of competition.”

Catmose College were victorious in the senior category coming first and second. In the intermediate category Catmose took first place again with John Ferneley College finishing second.

The teams will now represent the Melton Rotary clubs in the district semi-finals.
