Izabella, 11, entered the contest after reading about it in the Melton Times. This annual event, run by the combined youth committees of the Rotary Club of Melton Mowbray Belvoir and the Rotary Club of Melton Mowbray, recognises the writing skills of young people from Year 4 in primary schools through to those in sixth form colleges.

This year’s theme invited entrants to write on ‘Reflection’ and this could be a piece of prose or poetry. Izabella wrote a piece of prose and having won the local stage of the competition, her entry was sent on to the district heat. Although she didn’t win this round she did receive a certificate to commend her work.

Izabella was presented with her trophy, medal and certificates by Maggie Saunders, from the Rotary Club of Melton Mowbray Belvoir during a recent Key Stage 2 assembly at her school. Her parents and other members of the family were there to watch the presentation.

The runner-up this year was Natalie Gordon from St Francis Catholic Primary School. She wrote a piece of poetry, which was also a strong contender for the trophy.
