Waltham Messy Church celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday by putting on free African drumming workshops for families.

The workshops were led by Simon Stokes of Talking Rhythms and were held in the village hall because of ongoing work being carried out in the church.

Tea and cakes were provided to supplement the picnics which people had brought to eat after drumming.

Christine Alexander said: “The hall and tables were decked out in Union Jacks and there was a lovely atmosphere throughout.

“There were 62 adults and 50 children who joined in with the celebrations and were given a free book about the Queen as a souvenir of the day.”
