A former farm in Church Lane wants to convert a building from a stable to business or light industry use but the community has reacted angrily to the moves.
Kenneth Ketcher, who lives in Long Clawson, represented the residents at the development c
ommittee meeting which was to decide the application last week.
He said: "We as a village are strongly opposed to this application. It would prove a loss of privacy, likely appearance and character. It would affect the whole essence of the village envelope.
"It's of some significance 10 years ago that a planning application was refused and an appeal also refused. The report said it should never be used for commercial or industrial use."
John Machin, chairman of Clawson, Hose and Harby parish council, also opposed the development saying it would open the gates to more industrial development in the area.
John Bradley, a chartered surveyor, represented the developers at the meeting and agreed with the planning officers, who had recommended the proposal, that it was a sustainable development.
A similar application had been made 10 years ago but it was refused because it was outside the village envelope.
The committee unanimously voted to defer the decision until the original report could be found.
