A father and son have organised a dads versus lads football match to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Joe Dennison (18) and his dad, Mark, have organised the match to take place at the Barkestone-le-Vale football pitch on Sunday (June 28). Kick-off is 2pm and there will also be a cake stall and refreshments after the match.

Last year’s match, which the lads narrowly won 7-6, raised money for Cancer Research, Dove Cottage and Forever Stars.

In 2013 Joe and his friend Dan Copley, both former Belvoir High School students, organised a similar event - which the lads also won - and the pair also raised about £2,500 for Cancer Research when they cycled to the 20 largest football grounds in England including Newcastle, Liverpool, Chelsea and Wembley.

Joe, who recently finished his A-Levels at Melton Vale Post-16 Centre, said: “We’re asking the players to donate £5 each and we’re relying on spectators donating into bucket collections.

“Everyone who makes a donation will be entered into a prize raffle. We have some big prizes including Celtic FC match tickets.”

Joe, who lives in Barkestone-le-Vale, and Dan, of Croxton Kerrial, are planning another charity bike ride later this year.
