Police are reviewing CCTV after a suspicious device was found near a cashpoint in Melton.
Officers were called to TSB’s High Street branch on Thursday and taped off the scene.
A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman said: “A member of the public also tried to make a cash withdrawal and had their card swallowed by an ATM machine. The customer entered the branch to request a bank statement and found their money had gone from their account.”
Police said the offences could be linked and are making enquiries into fraud and a theft.
Officers said there had been no other similar ATM incidents in Melton.
Melton TSB declined to comment at the time of going to press and said the matter was for the local police.
A TSB spokeswoman said: “I can confirm the police have everything in control and the TSB machine is up and running again.”
