Two men who raided 19 shops in a nationwide spree, including one in Melton, have been jailed.

Scott Johnston (35), of Lancia Close, Coventry, and Scott Warner (33), of Missing Oak Close, Bedworth, targeted four Tesco Express and 15 Sainsbury Local convenience stores in the early hours of the morning. Wearing masks and dark clothing, they forced the main doors of the premises and ransacked the self-service tills for cash before making their getaway.

The pair attacked stores, stretching from York to the Isle of Wight, between May 18 and July 17 last year. Melton’s Sainsbury Local, on Nottingham Road, was the third store they hit on May 21.

The duo was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday, May 27, having pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.

Warner was sentenced to 52 months for conspiracy to commit burglary. Johnston was sentenced to 56 months with an extra six months for dangerous driving.
