Lengthy ban for Christmas Day drink-driver

THE following local cases were dealt with by Loughborough Magistrates’ Court on Feburary 6, 8 and 11:-

l Paul Martin Worthington (35), of Russet Way, Melton, admitted driving with excess alcohol in Drummond Walk, Melton, on December 30, 2012. A breath test revealed 51mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg. He was fined £255, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £25 and £85 costs and was banned from driving for 12 months. The disqualification may be reduced by three months if he satisfactorily completes an approved driving course.

l Ryan Adrian Grant (20), of Edendale Road, Melton, pleaded guilty to criminal damage causing damage to a brick wall and railings at an address in Nottingham Road, Melton, on April 9, 2012, to the value of £645. He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay compensation of £699.

l David Wojcik (30), of Avon Road, Melton, admitted driving with excess alcohol in Dalby Road, Melton, on Christmas Day 2012. A breath test recorded 77mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg. He was fined £275, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £27 and £85 costs and was banned from driving for 20 months. The disqualification may be reduced by five months if he satisfactorily completes an approved driving course.

l John Charles Beedie (21), of Bentley Street, Melton, admitted a charge of common assault in Melton on December 11, 2012. He was made the subject of a community order and told to pay £25 compensation and a victim surcharge of £60. Beedie also admitted causing criminal damage to a car boot to the value of £400 in Melton on November 11, 2012 He was made the subject of a community order and ordered to pay compensation of £100.

l Aaron Dignum (23), of St Peter’s Street, Syston, pleaded guilty to assault by beating a man in Leicester on October 14, 2012. He was fined £400 and ordered to pay £250 compensation plus a victim surcharge of £40 and £50 costs.

l Mark Andrew Edwards (41), of Moorland Road, Syston, admitted speeding in Narborough Road, Leicester on August 8, 2012. A speed camera recorded him driving at 47mph in a 40mph zone. He was fined £60 and ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge and £60 costs.
