Drink drivers hit with bans

The following local cases were dealt with by magistrates sitting in Loughborough on May 20 and 22:

Tracey Bellis (49), of Clumber Street, Melton, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol on Scalford Road, Melton, on March 7. Bellis was found to have 219 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mg. She was banned from driving for two years, which may be cut by six months if she completes a course. She must also pay a £145 fine, £20 victim surcharge and £50 costs.

Callum Broadbent (18), of Waltham Lane, Harby, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol on High Street, Harby, on April 25. He was found to have 73 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The limit is 35mcg. He was banned for 20 months, which may be cut by five months if he completes a course. He must also pay a £110 fine, £20 victim surcharge and £50 costs.

Jamie Whelan-Richards (24), of Shepherds Croft, Melton, admitted having some cannabis in his possession on October 22. He must pay a £50 fine, £20 victim surcharge and £50 costs.

Paul Duffy (50), of Morley Close, Melton, admitted stealing a joint of beef and two packs of beer from Sainsbury’s, on January 4 and November 10 respectively, and two turkeys from Iceland on December 14. He was fined £90 and must pay a £20 victim surcharge.
