Congregation hear of Re-ordering Project plans for Melton's St Mary's Church

From 10am until 12noon, and again at 2pm until 4pm, slide show presentations outlined the problem areas in church and how it is intended to tackle them.

The Rector, the Revd Kevin Ashby, then revealed that the last service in church before renovation work begins is to be on Sunday, January 1, 2017. It will re-open in time for Remembrance Sunday on November 12, 2017.

At the launch it was also revealed that 8am and 10am services on Sundays will be held in the council chamber at Melton Council’s Parkside offices, and that Choral Evensong services at 6pm will be held at St Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Welby Lane.

Other midweek services are set to move to the Samworth Centre and joint services with other churches in the team parish are moving to the Baptist Church in Leicester Road.

The Re-ordering Project is set to include a state-of-the-art lighting system, a purpose-built servery with running water, a dishwater, crockery and a coffee maker, and there is provision for two accessible toilets.

Other items on the agenda include creating a draught lobby to the main west porch entrance, creating a single level entrance suitable for the disabled, raising the floor in certain parts of the building to create step free access and allow for underfloor heating and electrics, improving sound and AV systems and organ refurbishment.
