Villagers attend Harby fete despite the wet weather

The event held at the village hall and on the Leys had plenty of activities for families.

Its programme of attractions featured a dog show, live music, food stalls and children’s games.

Georgina Steward, who helped organised the event, said: “It rained in the morning which I think put a lot of people off at first but the rain held off from 11am until the last song from our final band at 8pm, which couldn’t have been more perfect.

“We’re not sure how much we’ve raised yet but we think it will be around £5,000 for the upkeep of the village hall.

“The dog show run by the Dogs Trust, in Loughborough, was very popular with a variety of dogs doing silly tricks like the fastest biscuit eater.

“Everything went very well and as planned, considering the streets had turned to rivers at 9.30am.

“I would like to say thank you for everyone’s help and to all those who turned up and supported Harby. It means a great deal to the village hall committee as this is our biggest event of the year.

“One lady said she’d planned to stay for an hour but enjoyed it so much she didn’t go home until the end. It’s comments like that that make us want to organise the fete year in year out.”
