Residents relieved after housing scheme on outskirts of Melton is approved meaning a poultry farm won't be built at site instead
Springbourne Homes Ltd has been given the green light to build the homes on land east of Sandy Lane, between Melton and Burton Lazars, subject to conditions and meeting requirements of a section 106 planning agreement.
The requirements include making financial contributions towards the improvement of civic amenity sites, towards libraries and education provision, towards the provision of off-site affordable housing (£880,000) and towards the upgrading of Burton Lazars Village Hall (£4,500).

Springbourne Homes Ltd must also make arrangements for the provision and subsequent maintenance of a Nissen Hut interpretation centre to be developed as part of the scheme.
It’s intended the centre will house information about the development site’s history, its links with RAF Melton Mowbray Airfield and its role during the Second World War.
If the housing application had been refused, Springbourne’ sister company Agrinvest had said a poultry farm would have been built at the site instead having already been granted planning permission after winning a planning appeal.
