A big hearted member of the congregation at St Mary’s Church in Melton has received recognition from The Children’s Society for her efforts fundraising for the charity.

For almost 30 years Wendy Clark has served refreshments after the 10am service on a Sunday. She has asked for donations that have averaged £17 a week, and has helped to raise thousands of pounds for The Children’s Society.

Wendy was presented with a certificate of thanks by the charity’s regional fundraising manager Jane Foster when she visited the Melton Mowbray St Mary’s Parish Support Group at the beginning of November.

Wendy said: “I have recently had to stop serving the refreshments myself due to ill health, which has saddened me, but I have enjoyed every minute of chatting to people and getting to know them over a cuppa.

“I’m still in the background, supervising things and making sure supplies are stocked up.”
