Fundraisers for Dove Cottage Hospice in Stathern will be doing something different this winter.
Traditionally, hundreds of people have strolled around Melton in an annual Moonlight Walk.
But this year’s sponsored individuals are being asked to take part in a Santa Fun Run in the picturesque grounds of Belvoir Castle.
The event is on Sunday December 6, at 10.30am, and entrants will have the opportunity to take on a 5km or a 2.5km route to raise money for the hospice.
Amanda George, fundraising administrator for the facility, said: “Numbers have been going down for the moonlight walk in recent years so we decided to rest that event and organise something different.
“Those who take part can either run or walk and there will be refreshments served before and after in the castle car park.”
More than 200 people took part in last year’s moonlight walk, which raised about £15,000.
Amanda is hoping people are equally as generous this year for what is the hospice’s biggest annual fundraising effort.
She added: “We had about 230 in the moonlight walk last year and we will be pleased if we get that many entrants for the fun run.
“We are hoping to raise around £10,000 with the run.”
Anyone interested in taking part in the Santa fun run can do so by calling Amanda on 01949 860303 or by going online at www.dovecottage.org/events/santa-fun-run-walk for more details about the day and to enter.
Registration, which includes a Santa suit, is £10 for adults and children aged over 12 and £5 for younger children.
