A car burst into flames as a woman got out of the smoking vehicle after pulling over in a Melton street.

A fire crew from Melton was called to the incident on Dovedale Close, which involved a Vauxhall Zafira, just before 3.20pm on Friday.

Incident commander and Melton day crew manager Scott Smith said: “A lady had pulled over due to the car not performing as it should do when it then began smoking and then, as she got out, burst into flames.

“Firefighters used two breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to a extinguish the fire which started in the engine compartment.”
