Tills were ringing for the first time today (Thursday, June 4) at Melton’s new Lidl store.

Eager shoppers were queuing up as Mayor of Melton Jeanne Douglas officially opened the Scalford Road store at 8am, cutting the ribbon with store manager Kerry Hodgett and Lidl staff.

Town Crier Robert Needham was also present, announcing the store opening at high volume.

The store, which is providing 30 new and part-time jobs, becomes the budget’s chains 620th outlet across Great Britain.

Free tea and coffee, as well as bacon sandwiches and a barbecue, were being served up to customers today. The store was also offering special deals to mark the opening.
