The proprietors of a village shop are celebrating after their business was recognised in a national awards scheme which attracted more than 500 entries.
Ben and Jo Meacock, who have been running Thrussington’s Village Store for three years, were delighted to see it gain a highly commended rating in the ‘Local Shop’ category of the Farm Shop and Deli Awards 2015.
Mrs Meacock said: “We’re absolutely over the moon. Our business is still in its infancy so we really entered the competition just to raise our profile a little.
“We didn’t expect to get anywhere, as there are so many great little local independents out there. To hear that we have been highly commended is just amazing news.”
Votes were cast by thousands of shoppers for entrants across a dozen categories and winners and highly commended businesses were chosen after a day of intensive judging and ‘mystery shopper’ visits.
Regional champions will be announced next month and then an overall national winner at the Farm Shop & Deli Show in April.
