Quenby Hall administrators seek buyer

NATIONWIDE insolvency practitioners SFP has been appointed administrator to Quenby Hall Dairy Limited - one of only six dairies permitted by law to make Stilton cheese.

Joint administrators Daniel and Simon Plant are now seeking a buyer to rescue the business.

In 2005 Quenby Hall, near Hungarton, began producing Stilton for the first time in more than 250 years. The hall was also England’s first purpose-built dairy. The company has an annual turnover of about £1.8m and employs about 40 staff.

Mr Plant said: “The situation is unfortunate. There’s a lack of cash flow at a time when the facilities were expanding. With the heritage and prestige of the business we’re very hopeful. There are various interested parties at the moment.”
