GENERATIONS of a Melton family have pledged to work together to make a success of their new undertakers’ business.

Shane Mousley & Son, an independent funeral directors, based in Cranmere Road, was officially opened on Saturday.

A service of dedication was carried out by the Rev Kevin Ashby while county councillor Peter Roffey cut a ceremonial silver ribbon.

The owners’ 12-year-old daughter, Poppyjoy, proudly read out a poem during the ceremony.

The business opened its doors to customers last month after a Chapel of Rest blessing by the Rev Sue Paterson.

Shane Mousley, who is a qualified funeral director with more than 20 years’ experience, is working alongside his wife, Sallyanne.

Their son, Harrison (16), and 20-year-old daughter, Jennifer, are being mentored by their father to help them gain their industry qualifications while other daughter, Poppyjoy, plans to work in the family business when she leaves school.

The team at Shane Mousley & Son is completed by funeral directors Paul Lee and Andrew Smith, together with aftercare service employee Paul Saxby.

Shane Mousley said: “I am so proud of the family and what they have achieved with me. I am pleased that there is a generation of the family behind me keen to learn and work alongside me.

“Harrison and Jennifer have taken to the profession exceedingly well and Sallyanne has embraced us all as a family working together.”

Mrs Mousley said: “We pride ourselves on being the only independent family-owned funeral directors’ in Melton and we feel it is nice to always have that personal touch. When you contact us you’ll always be speaking with a member of our family, day or night, and that continuity is important to us.”

Harrison said he was enjoying being a trainee funeral director and learning the trade while working alongside his family.

“I am proud to be learning such a caring profession,” he said.

“I have taken to it well and I am looking forward to learning all aspects of the role and serving the community of Melton.”

Jennifer said the family funeral home had an open doors policy with someone always available to answer questions.

She said: “People are always welcome to sit down with us for an informal chat or to help ease any worries they might have about any aspect of a funeral or related services. Our advice is always free and if we don’t have the answer to hand we will find the information.”

The business, which can be contacted day or night on (01664) 561400, also offers pre-paid funeral plans, monumental masonry, flowers and catering.
