Louise Bushell launched Miss B’s Deli following the success of her Miss B’s Tea Rooms, which continues to thrive.

But she said not enough people were visiting the deli in Sherrard Street to make it viable to continue.

“We’ve had great feedback from people about the shop but it’s the case that if you don’t use it, you lose it,” said Louise.

“Customers at the tea rooms have been very supportive and I’ve been blown away by the support I’ve had from other Melton traders - it shows what a lovely community we have in Melton.”

The deli was set up in the former Manor Bakery premises, which had traded for 43 years.

It initally sold cooked meats, cakes, breads and sandwiches, as well as homemade foods such as sausage rolls and scotch eggs.

Louise had to change the nature of the business in a bid to attract more customers, though, with part of the shop converted into a restaurant.

She said: “Our ideas of a deli were quickly changed unfortunately. We weren’t initially going to have a restaurant but we opened one at a customer’s request.”

Louise added: “There was a lack of footfall and it is the case that a lot of businesses struggle down there in Sherrard Street.

“we also had roadworks there in winter and early spring which proved dire for us and you never get that back.”

Orders for cakes and scones can still be taken at the tea rooms in Market Place.

A note has now been posted on the window of the deli, which simply says: “It is with great sadness that we have decided to close Miss B’s Deli.

“We would like to thank our customers for their support over the past year.

“Orders for scones and cakes can still be taken at our tea shop in Market Place.

“Kind regards Louise, Beth, Gwen, Louise and Diane x.”
