Farms in the Melton area are supporting this year’s Open Farm Sunday initiative, on Sunday, June 7, in celebration of British farming and food.
Hundreds of farms across the country will be opening their gates for free, giving them an insight about life on a farm as well as providing a range of activities.
Saxelby Pastures Farm in Old Dalby (LE14 3NA) will be taking part in the initiative for a second year. Is activities will include milking and sheep shearing demonstrations, chicks hatching, Shire horses and working demonstration, nature trail, free competitions to win prizes and more. Afternoon teas can be bought and visitors can also bring picnics. The farm asks for visitors to leave their dogs at home, except guide dogs.
Northfield Farm in Cold Overton (LE15 7QF) will also be open on Sunday, June 7. Visitors will be able to meet the animals, watch food demonstrations, visit craft stands, go on guided walks and tractor rides plus more. Home-made food and drink can also be bought.
