Sophie Cullumbine, who runs Sophie’s Flower Company in King Street, was named East Midlands Wedding Florist of the Year at The Wedding Industry Awards.

And there was double cheer for the town at the presentation ceremony, at The Nottinghamshire Golf Club, when George Simpson was named Best Musical Act for the region.

Sophie, who also has a shop at Long Clawson, retained the title she won last year in the prestigious industry awards.

She said: “We are delighted to win the award again.

“It’s great for the business to be recognised like this.

“It’s also incredible that George won an award as well.

“For Melton to have two award winners like this is great for the town and for couples here who are getting married.”

George, who accompanies himself on piano or guitar, has been a wedding singer for 10 years. He triumphed in the category two years ago and hopes the award would again helpboost future bookings.

He said: “Winning this adds a mark of trust and extra professionalism for couples who are interested in booking you for their wedding.”

Sophie and George now go through to the national finals, where awards will be presented at the Cafe de Paris in London in January.
