Melton Council recognised the need to provide up-to-date information for tourists and identified seven key locations within the town’s car parks for the signs,

Working with the council, Melton Promotions designed the content for the signs which includes a town centre map showing all the town’s attractions, event information, the town’s heritage trail and a panel specifically for groups. Also included is the QR code to enable visitors to instantly download the Melton town guide mobile phone app, which has been produced in partnership by the council and Melton Business Improvement District (BID). The app, which is free to download, enables locals and visitors to find out information about the town’s shops, history guides and every day essential services.

Stephen Hallam, chairman of Melton Promotions, said “The town of Melton Mowbray and the surrounding borough really does have so much to offer. These signs will now enable visitors and locals alike to discover some of Melton’s ‘little treasures’ and ‘best kept secrets’.

Melton Council leader Pam Posnett added: “Tourism visits to Melton generated over £80.53m in 2014, an increase of 6.4 per cent on 2013, showing the huge importance of visitor expenditure on the town.

“The new signage will help ensure that the visitor experience to Melton is good, encouraging tourists to visit again and continue to increase the positive economic impact the expenditure brings to the town”

Melton town centre manager and tourism development officer Lisa Brown said: “The new signs not only look amazing but are low maintenance and hard wearing.

“The information panels can all easily be removed and the content updated to ensure we’re providing constant up-to-date information.”
