For the last year-and-a-half or so debt advisor Amanda Stevenson, who is originally from Melton, has been working towards providing the Melton and District Money Advice Centre.

And now Amanda and her team of volunteer helpers will finally be able to help local people with money and debt problems now they’ve gained the required authorisation.

Amanda (49), who has years of experience as a debt advisor for a national charity, currently lives in Yorkshire but plans to move back to the Melton area.

The new service is being officially launched at Phoenix House, on Nottingham Road, on Wednesday, June 1, from 11am to 3pm.

Amanda said: “We can do home visits if people want us to and we’ll also be working from Phoenix House on an ad hoc basis.

“As we get more funding we’ll be open more hours. Hopefully within a year we’ll be full-time, five-days-a-week.”
