Landslip-hit A606 set for further closure during works

The landslip, which occurred on June 22, initially forced the full closure of that stretch of road. The southbound carriageway only (Nottingham to Melton direction) has since re-opened but the road remains closed to northbound traffic.

Tony Glover, Leicestershire County Council’s highway inspection manager, said: “Works to rectify the landslip are expected to commence on Monday, September 5. The works will involve removal and alterations to the top of the slope, removal of some of the material that has slipped and material replacement to other areas of the embankment to provide a degree of drainage and some increased slope stability.

“These works are anticipated to take up to two weeks to complete and will require the road to be closed in both directions during this time.

“Other works will also be completed during the closure which would require the road to be closed, thereby reducing the length and number of times the road would have been closed.

“Leicestershire County Council apologise for any inconvenience caused by the full closure which is necessary in the interest of public safety, while equipment and plant operate from the carriageway and further trees are felled.

“Once all the planned works are completed the road will be fully opened in both directions.”

The exact date for the road closure, allowing the works to take place, and diversion route hadn’t been confirmed by the county council at the time of going to press.
