An inspiring woman, who was diagnosed with breast cancer, has beaten her condition to tackle a 3.4-mile fun run to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

Sarah Carter (43), who lives in Blakeney Crescent, Melton, has had two operations and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

Treatment often leaves her feeling weak and unwell, but fortunately the run fell in between treatment periods, meaning she was able to walk the race.

Sarah completed the run, put on by Hamilton United football club, in a time of one hour 40 minutes.

She walked the course with her friends and family and her dog Toby. The event was organised in memory of Chris Knight. Amazingly, she was also top fundraiser on the day, having collected £570 in sponsorship.

Organiser Patrick Wainwright said: “Sarah has helped organise previous charity events when she was well and even though she is going through such a tough time at the moment she immediately saw an opportunity to help raise money to help others.

“Her generosity of spirit is amazing and very humbling. All her friends and family are immensely proud of her. She is an inspiration to us all.”
