A labrador freed by firefighters after becoming stuck beneath an oil tank thanked her rescuers with a lick!
Gertie, a chocolate lab, became lodged under the tank in her garden in Stonesby, between Grantham and Melton, last night (Monday), leading her owners to call the RSPCA.
Animal welfare officer Kate Burris was called out to help.
She said: “Gertie had squeezed through a small gap and had gone under the tank. After five hours she was exhausted, and no amount of coaxing with salmon (her favourite food) was bringing her out!”
Gertie had been trapped since 5pm and as the evening wore on, Kate called on Leicestershire Fire and Rescue for a helping hand. A crew from Melton arrived.
Kate said: “They embarked on the rescue of Gertie with gusto and dug her out.
“Gertie was eventually freed with an audible cheer! Happy to be out, her tail was wagging uncontrollably. Luckily, she was no worse off for her ordeal, and she thanked all the team individually with a lick.”
