A windfarm in the Vale of Belvoir has been rejected despite planning officers recommending it was approved.
Renewable energy firm Infinergy proposed building 10 turbines on the site between Bottesford and Long Bennington but councillors refused permission at a day long hearing on Tuesday.
The decision came after a long-running campaign by pressure group Belvoir Locals Oppose Turbines (Blot) which included flying a bright red blimp above the vale.
Spokesman Fiona Fairhurst said: "It's fantastic news, we are delighted. It is the right result and demonstrates democracy works. It is nice to see local opinion counts for something."
Infinergy said it was disappointed and has promised to appeal the decision.
A spokesman for the company said: "This was the perfect opportunity for councillors to make a difference and help combat global warming. An opportunity that has, for the moment, been lost."
South Kesteven District Council, the local authority for the area, held the day long committee meeting specially to consider the decision.
A spokesman for the council said the committee was minded to refuse the plans and has to provide evidence to support the result at the next meeting on March 25.
