SATURDAY 7AM: Youngsters looking to cool down from this summer's soaring temperatures have been warned of the dangers of having a dip in Melton Country Park.
Inspector Nigel Peters, head of Melton police, said: "There's a couple of locations in the park where we don't condone swimming in unsupervised waters.
"When we do come across young people we do advise them against it. No matter how hot it is you don't know how cold the currents are or how deep it is.
"This is a classic call for parents to know where their children are and what they're up to."
Paul Evans, Melton Council's head of street scene and environment, added: "Children and parents of children need to be aware if they go swimming in places like this they could get into difficulties.
"When it's hot and suddenly you go into cold water it could potentially give you a heart attack or you could get cramps. The water isn't healthy and it's very soft underfoot so children could get stuck in the mud."
