St Egelwin's, in Scalford, launches its Back to the Future campaign for work on the building with an event on Saturday with East Midlands Presenter Anne Davies.
She said: "I'm very pleased to support the St. Egelwin's Back to the Future appeal. Ha
ving lived in Scalford, the village and its church are very dear to me and I'm delighted that this project will bring together the church, school and community."
The project is being launched to pay for plans which include underfloor heating, replacement of some of the pews, toilets, building meeting rooms and more.
It will hopefuly see the school and the church share the space and is being watched by the wider Anglican community as a national first.
It starts tomorrow (Friday) with a service at 7pm and a speech from the Rev Tony Pick, followed by music, cheese and wine.
On Sunday activities start with a pageant at 3pm depicting the history of St Egelwin and Scalford and will feature the infamous Peppermint Billy, the last man to be publicly hanged in Leicestershire.
The pageant will end with the burial of time capsule by Anne Davies who will then officially launch the appeal.
There will then be a balloon race, stalls, cream teas, a tug-of-war, and will end with a pub quiz at The Kings Arms.
It is hoped to raise £2,000 on the day towards a total of £350,000 needed for the work.
