SATURDAY 9AM: Enterprising Swallowdale Primary School pupils have come up with their own way of beating the credit crunch - by setting up their own school bank in conjunction with HSBC Bank Plc.
Year 5 pupils had to apply for roles within the bank, and after successful interviews, a team of youngsters were selected to run the bank themselves.
School governor Tom Netherton officially opened the bank on Monday (November 16) ready for the queue of customers.
Swallowdale teacher Andrea Brown, who set up the school bank in conjunction with HSBC, said: "This will give them hands-on experience of money management plus also give them invaluable business experience as they learn to run their own mini business.
"The children did brilliantly on their first day. They worked together as a team, giving exceptional customer service to the children who opened their accounts."
Competitions will be run throughout the year to encourage more children to save with the school bank which will open on a weekly basis.
