SATURDAY 1PM: The borough's youth champion and staff at The Melton Building Society are the latest to back our appeal for a new Scout HQ and water sports activities centre in the town.
Councillor Pam Posnett joined the beavers at the 4th Melton at their Wilton Road hut on Thursday. She said: "The youngsters were all really excited about the fact they are going to have a new home as the current hut is no longer fit for purpose.

"
But they were a little anxious that £20,000 still needs to be raised for them to hit their fundraising target. I told them not to worry
because I was sure the community would come together and support them.

"The important thing to remember here is that the new HQ can be made available to the wider community during the day and, because it backs on to the river, it will also double up as a centre for water-based activities for able bodied and disabled youngsters across the borough."

The 4th Melton has six sections comprising 150 boys and girls and they are continuing with their own fundraising efforts.

Those efforts were given a boost by staff at The Melton who dressed up in Scout T-shirts and neckerchiefs on Tuesday.

Branch manager Dawn Wright said: "We all paid £1 to dress differently and our customers contributed too, raising £105 on the day."

To make a donation write a cheque payable to 4th Melton Mowbray Scout Group and send it to Scouts Appeal, c/o Melton Times, 49 Nottingham Street, Melton Mowbray, LE13 1NT.

If you are organising a fundraising event please call the newsdesk on (01664) 412525. Thank you.
