A £3M redevelopment of facilities at South Charnwood Swimming Pool in Syston is set to be agreed today (Thursday).
Cash will be splashed on creating a dance studio, fitness suite, health suite with sauna and steam rooms as well as a new dryside changing rooms and additional car parking.
The pool hall, changing rooms and reception will also be refurbished. All the heating, electrical and filtration plants will be replaced and there will be a brand new roof over the pool.
Today Charnwood Council's Cabinet is expected to agree a recommendation to allocate £3,100,000 for the redevelopment of facilities over a two-year period.
Work is due to start in September and should be completed by the end of September 2009. This will involve a period of 15 weeks when the facility will be closed completely while the roof is replaced.
Councillor Mike Preston, lead member for environment at Charnwood Council, said: "The work will prolong the life of the pool for many years and will supply a much needed facility for use by the local schools and a number of surrounding local villages. This development shows the council's commitment to the South of the borough and will be the first of a number of sport developments in the next few years."
