TUESDAY 1PM
Rutland and Melton MP Alan Duncan welcomed pupils from Long Field School to the House of Commons last Wednesday to help raise awareness for their Send my friend to school campaign.
The scheme aims to raise money for less fortunate children around the world to get access to education. The school is currently paying for two students in Uganda, and a third child in Guinea Bissau is sponsored through Plan International.

Long Field pupils presented him with a large poster and letters from the school to pass on to the Prime Minister, in the hope that Gordon Brown will raise awareness for the campaign at the upcoming G8 summit.

The school has a simple message – that is it simply unfair that in the 21st Century, so many children around the world do not have access to education.

Mr Duncan said: "'This is a very worthy cause. Education is a universal right and something that should never be taken for granted."
