The next exciting stage of a revamp of Melton's parks is being launched following the completion of the first phase.
Melton Town Estate recently finished the initial instalment of the Big Picture appeal which saw the refurbishment of the band stand, Leicester Road sports ground and a new bridge on the River Eye.

Feoffee and former senior townwarden John Southerington said: "I'm very pleased with the way it has come along because it has been a very fine timetable.

"Since the bridge opened there have been a lot more people using the sports ground which is great.

"But next we are going to revisit the visitor and heritage centre. We have taken on board comments made about the original designed building and we are going to take it back to the drawing board."

Mr Southerington also said work, which will involve widening the entrance from Leicester Road, is being altered to avoid cutting down some established trees.

It is hoped to start in spring or summer next year.

*Mr Southerington is also planning to refurbish part of the war memorial site at Egerton Lodge.

He hopes to replace a tarmaced area with flagstones from Melton northern station, which are now in the Carnegie Museum.

County Councillor Peter Roffey is backing the scheme and said it would be fitting to use the paving slabs as hundreds of heroes stood on the platforms before going to fight in both world wars.

Work is underway to secure funding for the scheme.
